The brief

Disney+ and Hulu were streaming the festival. A full broadcast show runs at the same time as it, from a set built on the grounds.

Hosts interview live. Two to four field crews work the site shooting short documentaries and slice-of-life pieces. We were contracted as the featurette editors. Jeremy Clevenger and Brad Jones - two of us, in a trailer on the grounds, cutting on laptops, with Shane Bissett supervising post.

The day

Each morning we are given a number of minutes to fill - finished, approved, story-driven content, against deadlines that land through the day.

Some pieces are scripted and planned. Some are a pile of footage and nothing else, and we make something out of it.

Every piece clears our producers, then the festival’s producers, then Disney on the larger ones. Then it airs. Often there are only a few hours between footage arriving and going out.

The system we built

We built the backend ourselves.

Central project share running on DaVinci Resolve’s cloud services. Both editors in one project at the same time, logging footage as it lands, moving in and out of each other’s sequences as the day changes. Central storage and one shared project are what make that turnaround possible.

What it left

Bonnaroo led to Lollapalooza. Lollapalooza led to ACL. Same companies, same end client, inside one year.
